Neil Dormand
Neil Dormand started his professional life as a cameraman at the BBC…and those with long memories say that he was one of the best in the business. However the BBC’s creative side lost Neil for good when he became a lecturer in the BBC’s training department, and then began an inexorable rise through the ranks of BBC management. He was part of the Breakfast Time launch team in 1982, and in 1987 became Head of Production Operations for BBC News and Current Affairs. He ended up as General Manager of Technology and Production Services for BBC News, and as the most senior technical authority within BBC News, was responsible for overseeing the formulation of the overall IT, production technology and resource strategies for the division. Latterly operating as a consultant, he has been a Director of Autocue and is Consultant to the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association. He is also very active in the Royal Television Society and as a prominent member of the IBC Conference Committee. He counts among his main strengths change management, the building of investment cases for exploiting new technology; and the management of human issues. Neil is Chairman of the Thames Valley Centre of the Royal Television Society.
