Colin Clode

Colin joined the BBC as a trainee engineer.

The training involved working in all the operational disciplines including cameras, lighting, audio and editing, which provided a valuable all-round grounding in the skills involved in making programmes.

He soon moved on to News where he was to work in various operational areas, culminating in running the News communications centre.

In the early 80s Colin joined the management team that was to launch BBC Breakfast Time. Here he was responsible for managing a multi- disciplined operational crew based in both the studio and the field.

After a few years Colin was enticed back to News and TV Centre when he was appointed as Head of TV Operations responsible for the studio operation for TV News. In this role he was the line manager for a large group of operators and introduced innovative operational practices as technology and requirements changed.

In 1996 Colin led the project team responsible for technical procurement and project implementation for the launch of BBC News 24 Studio and Newsroom. The first fully automated 24 hour news channel in the UK. This was a ground- breaking installation using video file servers and file based editing. It also involved radical job changes as operators and journalists interchanged roles.

Colin then joined Omnibus Systems to run their proposals and pre sales department, and later became Sales Manager for Asia Pacific and Far East.

Throughout this time Colin was designing and selling integrated automation and MAM systems. Using his direct experience of solving the issues he specialized in consulting for broadcasters moving into file based systems and advising on change management and other HR issues.

Colin is now a broadcast and media consultant specializing in helping companies migrate their operation into file based workflows.
